To earn the rate in each category, eligible purchases must be made with merchants assigned to that category. Categories are assigned based on merchant category codes (MCC) set by the Visa and Mastercard payment networks. The payment networks assign each merchant to one MCC, even if they offer a variety of products and services. For example, gas stations, grocery stores and drug stores all sell several different products, but all purchases from these merchants – regardless of the type of product – are always categorized under the merchants MCC. Collabria doesn’t control the merchant categories that Visa and Mastercard set. Depending on the card, earning categories may include:
Sustainable Transit: commuter passenger transportation (local and suburban), taxis, limousines, buses and electrical vehicle charging stations (codes 4111,4121, 4131, 4789, 5552);
Select Recurring Bills+ & Digital Streaming: telecommunication services including but not limited to local and long-distance calls; cable satellite; other paid television/radio/streaming services; record shops; digital goods - media, books, games, applications (excluding games) and large digital goods merchants; direct marketing - continuity/subscriptions merchant; DVD/Video tape rental stores; and video game arcades/establishments (codes 4814, 4816, 4899, 5735, 5815, 5816, 5817, 5818, 5968, 7841, 7994);
Gas: service stations with or without ancillary services; automated fuel dispensers (codes 5541, 5542);
Entertainment: movie picture theatres, theatrical productions and ticket agencies; bands (concerts), orchestra, tourist attractions and exhibits; amusement parks; circuses; carnivals; aquariums; cable; satellite; and other pay television/radio/streaming services (codes 7832, 7922, 7929, 7991, 7996, 7998, 4899);
Dining: eating places, restaurants, fast-food restaurants (codes 5812, 5814);
Grocery: grocery stores and supermarkets (code 5411).
Collabria cannot guarantee the category set for each merchant or that merchant you purchase from has the eligible MCC. Collabria can only award rewards or cash back on eligible purchases based on the merchant's MCC. Rewards and cash back earned are subject to certain conditions.
+Note: Select recurring bills and digital streaming are defined as payments made monthly and automatically billed by the merchant to your Cash Back card, Cash Back World Elite Mastercard or Cash Back Visa Infinite card by the merchant. Not all ongoing payments will be considered recurring bills and therefore may not earn bonus rewards. This includes bills and subscription payments such as: cell phone bills & phone services (telecommunication services), streaming services (video or music), digital downloads, cable, satellite, and other pay television/radio/streaming services.
